Bringing learning to life!
“In the end we will conserve only what we love; we will love only what we understand; and we will understand only what we are taught” (Baba Dioum, 1968)
These days, zoos and wildlife parks have a vital role to play in educating people about wildlife and its conservation. Our planet’s true wealth – its biodiversity – has never looked more fragile. It will survive only if people are taught to realise its value and to care.
The Curraghs Wildlife Park, with its unique wetland setting and animals from around the world, is an exciting and inspirational place of learning for all ages. Nothing compares to coming face to face with real animals – with their help we can make learning an unforgettable experience.
Our successful programme of education for schools has been developing since 1999, and has since then reached many thousands of school students. In 2009 the Park won a prestigious national BIAZA award for “Best Education Project”, recognising the high standard we have set ourselves.
We now also run a lively Public Education Programme designed to deliver informal learning opportunities for all our visitors. With the help of volunteers, we run a wide range of talks, presentations, displays and activities. The focus is always on fun and enjoyment, so it’s quite likely that visitors won’t even notice they are learning!
In the summer of 2013 the Park saw the successful launch of its summer school, the Wild Academy. Details of the 2014 Wild Academy will be released soon.
